A late April heatwave created some great scoring at Fulford

We visited Fulford right in the middle of a mini heatwave, the greens had just filled out and the fairways were immaculate, perfect conditions for our second event of the season.

A full field created a great buzz in the Clubhouse as they devoured their bacon butties, staring out at the spectacular, sundrenched 18th green and dreaming of what might be in a few hours time.

With such great conditions for golf, early scoring was strong. However, Fulford has a way of biting back through a series of strategically placed, punishing bunkers.

The first nearest the pin came on the tricky 5th hole. It takes a brave shot to find the pin, a challenge successfully taken on by Joe Ingham, playing in his first event of the 2025 season.

There was plenty of jostling for position, with a number of players getting to the top of the leaderboard, only to hit a stretch of holes that caused problems. Turning for home, there were around 10 players in contention; the competition was hotter than the weather!

The second nearest the pin was on the 14th hole and won with a great effort from Ben Westerby, putting his tee shot only one metre away.

As we came down to the final few holes, it looked like a two horse race between Christian Hunt (using his local Fulford knowledge) and debutant, Charlie Langdale, whose big hitting made a mockery of some of the holes!

Returning 2024 Champion, Hugh Spillane put in a superb performance to pip James Pierechod to third spot, with both finishing on 39 points.

Charlie can count himself unlucky to finish second with 42 points, a performance that would have won any Clubhouse Leaders event last season. However, Christian had an unbelievable round to finish 3 clear on an amazing 45 points.

The Order of Merit is starting to take shape as we wait to see who will be crowned our 2025 Champion and win the trip to Portugal.
